Artem was tasked with providing a number of various props, puppets, and rigs for the A24 fantasy drama film ‘Tuesday’. A tale of a mother and daughter’s journey as they are guided by 'Death' in coping with the daughter’s impending death.
The character 'Death' is presented in the form of a size-altering macaw. We moulded, cast and painted multiple parrot bodies as stand ins for interaction and lighting references. Including a reference sphere covered in feathers and painted to match the CGI parrot.
For a scene where Death/the macaw is swallowed and inside a stomach, we sculpted, moulded and cast an upscaled interior of a stomach that can be puppeteered to move when interacting with the VFX parrot.
During the film, various animals become undead; we sculpted, moulded, and cast a wolf’s head, which was then covered in fur and fitted with a rig to puppeteer its jaw for lifelike movements.
We also designed and made a decapitated robin, equipped with a mechanism to animate its tail twitching and body movements, creating the appearance of a dying bird in its final moments.
Lastly was the upscaled cockroach, who meets Tuesday when she is scaled down in the floors of the house. The body of the giant cockroach, was hand sculpted, moulded and cast, then painted to a photorealistic finish. It also had rods attached to its legs, allowing it to be puppeteered on camera.
