Foals - 'Neptune'

Fire & Water FX

explore project

Artem’s West London backlot became a world of fire and water recently when our client, Familia, asked us to provide effects for Foals’ latest music video. ‘Neptune’, which is over ten minutes long, is the closing track from critically acclaimed album, ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2’.

Project Breakdown

The video, which was produced by Ryan Morgan and directed by David East, combines ‘striking natural beauty with images that conjure the feeling of a world teetering on the precipice of an apocalypse’. East has likened the film to a piece of contemporary art, using long takes, rather than the quick cuts usually seen in music videos. The result is a truly beautiful film.

Artem’s technicians created two major effects for the production: a large gas flame wall, against which a lone performer was shot, and a sheet of heavy falling water to simulate the performer immersed in a waterfall.

The full video of ‘Neptune’ can be seen here.

A huge thanks to Nigel (Swift) and the team for once again supplying us with the perfect backdrop for two of the most dramatic elements of this film. It was great to have the opportunity to head down to Artem and plan out with Nigel how we could achieve Dave's vision for these scenes ahead of the shoot. A 10ft fire wall and 10ft waterfall on a cold, dark night in December? No problem!

(Also, a huge shout out to the warm showers provided to stop our talent, Sulay Kelly, from getting hypothermia just before Christmas...)
