Written and directed by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect, Blockers) from an idea by James Cordon, this musical version of Cinderella from Sony Pictures Entertainment puts a fresh, modern take on the traditional fairy-tale. An all-star cast includes Camila Cabello in the title role as a young woman with big dreams and a tendency to break into song. Billy Porter, Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver and Pierce Brosnan also star.

Project Breakdown

Our client, CP Film Productions Ltd, asked Artem to make a number of props for the movie, from the iconic, midnight-striking clock to a tiny caterpillar with a big part to play. In addition we provided on-set attendance, rigs, fires and plumbing for gas and water effects.

Town Clock

Our town clock measured 2.4 x 1.5m and had a back-lit face with dimming and colour balance adjustment, settable hands and a minute hand which clicked forward on cue. The clock face was decorated with moving horse and carriage detailing.

Musical Instruments

We provided various musical instruments including a breakaway cello – weakened, reassembled and finished to match a hero prop – vac-formed cymbals and a revamped guitar, fit for a prince, with etched brass filigree detailing.

Other Props, Soft Props and Breakables

Our technicians moulded, cast and finished a number of lightweight, soft and breakable props, from decorated vases, throwable books and soft chicken legs, to cups, soft needles and wriggling silicone mouse tails. We also made a brass and timber sword stand with sliding mounts to display soft-prop swords and cutlasses and several fire bowls. Our smallest prop was a moulded silicone caterpillar.

Other decorative work included transforming matt-grey armour with antiquing, gold leaf and feather pommels, making gold and silver-plated brass wands with lacquered detailing, and adapting a watch with a custom made face and engraved case.

Carriage Wheels Rig

For location and studio close-up shots of the carriage in motion Artem created a rig to rotate the wheels at various speeds and to rotate the carriage between shots. A shake and bump manual lever - out of vision - added realistic levels of discomfort.
