Call The Midwife S9

Fire and Rain Effects

explore project

It’s always a pleasure working with the Call the Midwife team. For the ninth series of the popular drama, from Neal Street Productions, Artem were asked to create a number of effects, including rain on location, a gas camp fire and a large bonfire and sparklers for the series finale.

Project Breakdown

As the series drew to a close, the local community of characters came together in a moment of hope around Artem’s giant bonfire.

Our technicians had custom-made a cone-shaped steel frame to house the flame rigs, which enabled us to provide plenty of height without taking up too much room on set. The cladded structure was capable of supporting not just the flame proof boards and logs, but also real wooden furniture from the props department.

The gas flame bonfire effects were tested on site at Artem.

As always Artem provided a full risk assessment and management service and attended on set.

All episodes of Season 9 are available on the BBC iPlayer
