Weekends with Adele - Exploding Piano Onwards Touring
It's always a privilege being involved in high profile projects and knowing that our work will be seen by thousands of people, so we were delighted to be asked to be a part of Adele's Las Vegas Residency.
The Build
Throughout the show multiple pianos are featured with different effects, and Artem’s task was to create the exploding piano that features during the song ‘Rolling in the Deep’. The piano itself had be able to lift the pianist off the ground, whilst the body and lid are slowly broken apart in a slow motion effect.
The piano shell was built around a heavy-duty steel core which was activated by a hydraulic ram built into the base. The stool was fixed to the piano so the whole structure raised off the ground with the pianist still playing, up to 4ft off the ground!
The remaining piano parts were mounted off the steel core, and the lid shards were hydraulically actuated.
The build took three months to complete, as well as a few of our amazing technicians flying over to Las Vegas to help install the piano in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
