Angry Birds 2 - Film Launch at Cannes Film Festival 2019 Slick Productions

Sony Picture Entertainments are known for their spectacular events on the Carlton Hotel Pier at Cannes. The day before the festival opens Sony launch of one of their upcoming productions. No one knows what the production is and it's only revealed on the day.

In 2019 the film chosen was " Angry Birds 2 -the movie" and as part of the colourful launch/ photocall Slick Productions asked Artem to create an oversize slingshot, angry bird, nest and prop boxes for the event.

Using reference supplied by the client and designs generated by our own design team we began the six week build in our West London workshop. We started by machining the slingshot from HD modelling board on our KUKA robotic arm and the body of the bird from HD EPS. Once the machining was complete the slingshot was coated in Polyeurethane  then painted to give a stylised “wooden” finish. Bespoke patterns were made from the EPS body  and our costume fabricators used the patterns to produce the finished bird. Our prop builders used a large elastic band and aged wood to complete the other scenic elements and our Special effects technicians developed the high speed winching system, pyrotechnics and release mechanism that fired the bird along a guide rope onto a target which then “exploded” in a shower of confetti.
