The Real Thing U2

We like to be challenged here at Artem and are often approached with seemingly impossible requests. This particular challenge was to come up with a way of shooting a performer in a 360 degree continuous vertical shot for U2's video, The Real Thing.

We designed a rig that enabled the band members to be individually placed on a platform, and the camera rotated round over their heads and between their legs. It makes you feel dizzy just to watch the shots!

Artem Designer/Supervisor, Simon Tayler, won an MTV Award for his endeavours - BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS IN A VIDEO.

The rig is well known throughout the industry and has been adapted to shoot various set ups - including a car which you can see here.
