New tricks for Walkers Crisps

Taking inspiration from the famous bicycle scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, production company Weilands contacted Artem Special Effects to assist with their treatment for a new Walkers Crisps commercial.

The spot which features Walkers front man Gary Lineker, shows him appearing to perform a number of cycle stunts including riding with his feet up on the handle bars and seated backwards on the handle bars.

In order to make it possible for Lineker to perform the stunts himself, Artem designed and built a unique articulated linkage which would support the bikes whilst allowing them to be towed behind a quad bike. They also fitted the bikes with specially made grips, plates, brackets, belly boards and footpads to assist Lineker in holding the poses.

"I remember seeing the original film as a kid so this was a wonderful opportunity to recreate an iconic scene. I was initially cautious about Gary doing the stunts himself as he was to come to the shoot with no practice time, so we designed the rigs to make the performance as safe and easy as possible. In the event he was absolutely fine and even seemed to enjoy the procedure. "
