Artem Case Studies

Godiva Imagineer Productions, Arts Council

Artem was responsible for creating a giant 10m tall puppet of Lady Godiva as part of Coventry's celebration for the Olympics. Funded by the Arts Council, the Godiva Awakes project represented the West Midlands region at the 2012 Games. Godiva was driven to London on a purpose-built 50 seater bike that a team of cyclists powered, called the Cyclopedia, in shifts during their week-long journey to London.

The puppet is activated by four performers with Lady Godiva's head and eye movements being radio controlled. The body was made up of polystyrene shapes that were moulded and then cast out in fibreglass to create a hollow shell that was supported by an internal aluminium structure, and her famously nude figure was instead dressed by designer Zhandra Rhodes.
