Artem Case Studies

The Fifth Estate

On receiving photos prior to shipping: “Colin, fantastic work! Everyone very impressed. Look forward to the real thing tomorrow.”

On receiving the lamps: “…Belgian colleagues couldn’t believe the quality.”

Artem was contacted by Mark Tildesley, Production Designer on the feature film The Fifth Estate, shooting in Belgium, and asked to produce 35 highly finished aluminium lamp shades.  These needed to be on set in Belgium in less than a week so there was no time to waste!

Working from drawings sent from Art Directors Katrina Mackay and Denis Schnegg, Artem quickly produced a design optimised to help the fitting of the fluorescent tubes by the Belgian electrical department.  After the CAD design model was approved, parts were produced by CNC machining, laser cutting and sheet metal bending straight from these CAD drawings.  Parts were then TIG welded and assembled by our technicians in less than 2 working days - as well as packing and producing assembly instructions!

The job went well and according to plan, the clients were very happy and it was even finished ahead of schedule!
